Vivint

Customer Service Representative

September - December 2019 • Provo, UT

What I liked

I was able to learn to take more control of difficult situations and learned a lot of patience and leadership just by being given authority to make decisions when customers faced a problem.

What I wish was different

I wished I had been there longer to experience different positions and continue growing.

Advice

It’s important to allow yourself to make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. That is the only way we become better at our job.

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

Learning how to work hard and applying it to your life day by day will produce amazing results. Your work is something no one can take from you and being good at working hard sets you apart in anything and everything. This job taught me self discipline and what I can create for myself with an opportunity that's set in-front of me.

Smart Home Pro

April - August 2019 • Orem, UT

What I liked

My boss was a nice guy.

What I wish was different

I didn't like anything about this job. 1) They told me I would make about 10× the amount I actually did, and I worked hard. If I had known the low amount I was going to actually make, I never would have taken this job. 2) They weren't clear about how much training it would take. I thought I might start my own schedule in May, but I didnt until July. That meant over 2 months of training (not getting paid fully, just minimum wage) that I wasnt planning on. 3) They had me shadow techs in one aspect of work and then when I started my own schedule put me in another area of work that I had no training in. So i had no clue what to do. Which meant my service appointments took forever, always put me behind schedule, and upset customers cause frankly I had no experience in what I was being asked to do. 4) They asked me what hours I wanted to work, but then didn't respect what I had asked.

Advice

Look, some people like this job. It wasn't for me at all though. If you're interested though, I would say find out all you can before you start. I think that was my mistake- my expectations were very different from the realities.

Data Analyst Intern

April 2018 • Provo, UT

What I liked

Vivint has been an incredible place to work. They have given me constant opportunities to grow and work on meaningful projects that have influenced the whole company. Vivint was willing to work with my incapacities and train me to use programs and tools that I was unfamiliar with at first. The team that I was placed on treated me like a tenured, equal player, genuinely listening to ideas. They provided resources to start my own initiatives based on my ideas. A 10 week internship resulted in almost 2 year employment while still in school. I could not speak more highly of Vivint.

What I wish was different

My internship experience was great, but Vivint does struggle with some inadequacies as a whole. I found their database infrastructure to be inefficient and confusing. That being said, Vivint is focused on constant improvement and I believe will improve this element of their business.

Advice

Stakeholders are Vivint are impressed by initiative. In applying for an internship, reach out to individuals via LinkedIn or other platforms to express interest and start conversations about your qualifications. When beginning an internship, proactively build your own projects when you see business needs that need to be met. While you are assigned projects, your biggest growth will occur as a result of the flexibility and empowerment Vivint provides.
