T-Mobile USA, Inc.

Mobile Associate

January - July 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

It was a lot of fun! Got to meet great customers and coworkers.

What I wish was different

The commission part of our check, it wasn't fair the way everything was calculated and done, I certainly didn't agree with it or like it.

Advice

It was a great learning experience being in retail from the that side of the industry (phone wise), doing plans selling phones and convincing customers of plans and more.

Intern - Internal Audit/ Finance

June - September 2017 • Bellevue, WA

What I liked

I loved that I was treated just like any other full-time employee. I felt that my work was appreciated and added value to the business. Also, I was always encouraged to try new things to help myself learn the processes and operations but knew I could ask for help from any of my colleagues or managers if I needed.

What I wish was different

I wish that prior to my internship I would have been ready to start networking. I knew going in that it was going to be a fantastic learning experience, but I feel that I did not fully utilize all the connections I could have because I didn’t start to network until a few weeks into the internship.

Advice

Practice your elevator pitch, and have a clear vision of what you want to accomplish during your internship. Also, never be afraid to ask for something weather it be a meeting with a chief level executive or coffee with your hiring manager. People are usually very willing to share their wisdom and help you along your career path.

Hometown Expert

May 2021 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

I have actually worked for the company for multiple years in different positions, and have had a great experience overall. I love the company culture and the great benefits. The tuition assistance program has been helping to pay for my master's degree.

What I wish was different

I would love to further my career with the company, especially considering I am getting an MBA, but they do not offer ways for employees to get experience and move on to working in different departments. There are no training programs and as employees we cannot apply to the internships that are available (which are only open to external candidates).

Advice

T-Mobile is an excellent company to work for, and has been great to me as I complete my undergrad and graduate courses. But there is not a path for existing employees working on the retail team to develop and move to other positions within the company, even with advanced degrees.
