Tax Software Support Intern

What I liked

I was able to experience the world of a tax preparer and at the same time, I got to learn the intricacies behind the scenes of a tax software company. Both of these gave me a look into another side of Accounting. I was also able to hone my problem-solving skills as I needed to make sure I helped the clients over the phone. Lastly, I want to mention that everyone in the tax support team helped me adjust to my responsibilities. With this job, communication is key. If you are able to communicate your dilemma, someone is available to guide you into finding the answer.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have been faster at finding solutions for the clients. There are also tons of helpful and important information to learn during the training process but unfortunately, my brain is not able to in-take all of these. I relied a lot on confirmation from teammates, the company site and the software so I can provide an answer to the client.

Advice

The fast pace environment might be overwhelming at first, but keep in mind that there are many resources to help.

The work was incredibly gratifying and the trainers did a phenomenal job. We were well taken care of and we were helped whenever we needed it.

What I wish was different

I really have no complaints about this job. Perhaps it would have been better to work in person.

Advice

Customer service, critical thinking, and active listening are great skills to come into this job with.

What I liked

As an intern, the flexibility Wolters Kluwer has to offer is amazing. As a full-time student, I always value my time and working here has allowed me to have a great paying job while being able to dedicate substantial time to school.

What I wish was different

I would have liked the internship to have started a week earlier but regardless most of the training took place before classes ever started.

Advice

The first couple of weeks are tough with the substantial amount of information that you are trying to take in. Just remember, every single person has been in the same position and with time, everything will begin to click.

This job is not easy and there is a lot of information to absorb. However, everyone here is extremely helpful and will help you. Be prepared to learn!
