Technology intern

June - August 2022 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

That I got to experience what it's like to work in a non academic setting. Additionally, the team I worked with were very nice and always willing to help.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been a set onboarding process because occasionally I though I had requested access to everything that I needed, only to go back and have to request more and have to wait for approval because there were things missed.

Analyst (Investment Banking)

June - August 2022 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

A rotational experience between an investment team and banking. One was more on the field shadowing, while the other had me work on a project.

What I wish was different

On-boarding was rough, especially if you are traveling from another state. There seem to be miscommunication between program managers and work managers. This caused delay in orientation activities and sense of be-wilderness.

Advice

You must take the reigns or else you be left behind, lost, and suffer from imposter syndrome. It is better if you ask the same question to multiple people on your team than one because EVERYONE does a process differently.

Market Risk

June - August 2022 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

Loved my team, my group, and the work that I had been given during the internship. The work itself came with a steep learning curve, but it always kept me interested and asking questions every day. Charlotte is a great city to be located in as a young professional as there are many breweries, restaurants, and things to do. While it is not by any means close to NYC levels of what you can do, it was sufficient for what it was, and I liked it.

What I wish was different

More opportunities to be in the NYC Hudson Yards office as that is where most of the equity/FX trading occurs and a few risk groups (95% of WF is located in Charlotte). It would be nice to have the flexibility to choose between locations, but often would not be feasible given the number of interns there are.

Advice

Network, network, network! Make new connections every day and take advantage that you are still an intern and there to soak in as much information as you can about your work and also the many other groups at the bank.
