What I liked

I loved working with guests! I was at the guest services counter for the majority of my time at Target, and I loved engaging in conversations and helping customers get what they needed.

What I wish was different

I wish our Drive Up system was a bit more solidified, as we ran into a few issues with it.

Advice

I would absolutely recommend embracing all of the pros and cons of retail work! This experience helped me gain an appreciation for retail workers, and it brought me closer to countless members of the Ann Arbor community.

Some drama between workers that management did not acknowledge or try to stop.

Advice

Good pay and flexible hours! I’ve worked for target since high school and they have always been flexible about school and sports. I will continue to work there until I graduate!

What I liked

Fulfillment expert allowed for a semi independent workspace. Target has done a good job modernizing the workplace so I worked using a “MyDevice.”

What I wish was different

Sometimes there were bugs within the online systems which made finding the products in the store difficult.

Advice

You must be ok walking quickly throughout the store for the entirety of the shift. It is very hands on and independent.

What I liked

I enjoyed working. Working is a good way to fill time in the summer. What am I going to be doing other than working? Environment was social enough, and I naturally liked the values of keeping everything looking tidy and being nice to the customer.

What I wish was different

Sometimes I got closing shifts into opening shifts. Those were a bit of a pain, as I'd get home and go to sleep only to wake up to go back to work, but they didn't happen often.

Target is a good job, and I feel they're likely to hire you if you want a job.

What I liked

I enjoyed working in a team and having an opportunity to grow within the business. I have moved from being a cashier to an electronics specialist in under two years. As an electronics specialist, I have the pleasure of assisting guests in making decisions in relation to identifying which products will benefit them the most.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have begun training within the tech department earlier in the year. I was given the opportunity to learn through experience, but only recently have I learned that training offered by the business can fill in the knowledge gaps.

Advice

Take advantage of your resources provided to you by the business. The business and the employee must have a working relationship where both parties invest in one another.
