Guest Service Supervisor

What I liked

Everything about Target is great! I have loved the company since I was little, and when I started working there it made me fall in love even more.

What I wish was different

Management at times was a little rough, however, they mostly have been pretty good overall.

Advice

Cashier

July - September 2018 • Alameda, CA

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

One piece of advice that I would share about this experience would be that if you ever go into retail, you have to be prepared to deal with all sorts of customers. You have to mentally prepare yourself before every shift because you never know what kinds of customers you are going to encounter that day.

Operations Manager

June - August 2018 • Lake City, FL

What I liked

Above anything else, the people. From management down to hourly employees, across all departments, the people were remarkably supportive and willing to teach. I felt very comfortable being my self around them each day and growing as an employee. Some days shifts would last more than 12 hours (just given the nature of the food distribution industry), yet the flew by compared to the 8 hour days I have spent in conference rooms or behind a desk in past experiences.

What I wish was different

Simply the location. The facility being in Lake City created a great deal of upheaval in my living situation, but I give credit to Target for helping me with the transition. In some ways I also found that the facility wasn't incredibly receptive to improving conditions for their lowest level employees, but they had their reasons for that. Unfortunately I could see serious workforce retention problems that could (and did) arise from this.

Advice

Leave any preconceived notions about operations management at the door. It is an environment that is impossible to explain until you are in it. Keep an open mind and be ready to be tested.

Food Team Member

May - August 2018 • Riverhead, NY

What I liked

The people that you work with are great and really allowed me to learn all the basics of the job in a short amount of time and made the work environment more enjoyable overall.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more room for innovation in the workplace, because working at Target does not require many prerequisites I believe that the rules are very strict and any variations from these rules would result in swift disciplinary action. I understand that there are definitely people that break the rules in a bad way, but if I find a way to improve upon current process I would love to at least be heard for my ideas.

Advice

I would just say that you should just get used to standing on your feet for long periods of time, if you can do that you will be fine.

Night Stocker

June - September 2018 • Wyomissing, PA

What I liked

This job required me to work between the hours of 4:00 am to 12:00 pm. This schedule allowed me to get decent hours without disrupting my other plans for the day. The wage was also very nice compared to the other jobs I could've gotten.

What I wish was different

Because of the times I had to start work, my sleep cycle was thrown off, making me drowsy durring normal daytime hours.

Advice

Target was, overall, a great place to work. They allowed time off when I requested it, and the shifts were at a good time for me. I did, however, realize the importance of properly adjusting my sleep cycle when I start working early in the morning.

Executive Team Lead

June - August 2019 • Santa Rosa, CA

What I liked

The pay was really good and I liked the team a lot.

What I wish was different

I did not get enough leadership experience out of it. I was promised more opportunity and control over a real team but I did not really get that once I got to target.

Advice

Be more vocal about wanting to get more out of the experience. I think my mentor just did not really want to let go of her control, possibly because she was scared of me messing something up.
