Gallagher

Insurance Agent

June - August 2019 • South Jordan, UT

What I liked

With Gallagher, they treat you as an employee, not just an intern. They flew us to Chicago to network with all the other interns as well as with the president of the company and multiple other people in charge of the company. They invest in the interns, which shows how much they want to invest in your future at the company.

What I wish was different

The only thing I would change was non facing customer contact. Getting out and seeing what is considered risk when analyzing insurance for consumers would highly benefit the interns.

Advice

Soak up all the information you can. Soak up the work environment, and the people you would work with. It truly will influence if you want to choose this as a career.

Professional Sales Intern

June - August 2019 • Rolling Meadows, IL

What I liked

Being able to immerse myself in a professional culture. Getting to work everyday got me excited because I knew I would be able to be a part of a project or meeting that would ultimately help me understand the company and industry more thorough.

What I wish was different

I wish my experience could have been longer. The 9 weeks I got to spend there were amazing but I felt as if I was just getting the hang of certain things as my time was ending.

Advice

Act as a sponge, you only have 9 weeks to give them a reason to hire you full time. Take in all of the information you receive and use it to your benefit to spread yourself out from the pack. Say yes 10x more than you say no, people may not notice if you always say yes when they ask you to complete a task but will definitely remember if you say no.

Sales Intern

June - August 2019 • Houston, TX

What I liked

I really enjoyed the structure of the program and the inclusion of sales competitions between interns. Throughout the program we were encouraged to work on our public speaking skills by participating in coffee talk discussions, Toastmasters and with our weekly speeches.

What I wish was different

I really enjoyed the program and am excited to start my career with Gallagher when I graduate. Although I wish I could have possibly gotten some more experience with marketing. But I encourage those doing this program to take initiative and shadow somebody in a department you are interested in at some point in the summer.

Advice

I would advise those interested in this position to make the most of the program. There are so many opportunities to go on client/prospect meetings and it would be very beneficial to you to take part in those. As well, everyone is willing to take the time to sit down with you to chat or help you with something to take advantage of those opportunities and schedule times to meet with those employees!

Insurance Sales Intern

June - August 2019 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I was frequently pushed out of my comfort zone. It was uncomfortable at first, but it built my confidence.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had the opportunity to learn about other roles in the office. We were stuck to just our division and it would have been nice to see how all of the parts of the company work together.

Advice

Don't be afraid to do something out of your comfort zone. If anything- you build confidence, and meet people you never would have met otherwise. Just do it!

Gallagher is very big on offering two year internships and often invite interns back full time so be professional and treat this internship like a summer long interview.
