Camp Joy

Volunteering for Camp Joy

June 2019 • Aiken, SC

What I liked

I really enjoy helping and volunteering with Special Olympics, and with Camp Joy, you recieve one on one time 24/7 with your camper. I had been doing volunteer work with special needs since I was 14 years old and never once have I wanted it to end. I really appreciate how much it has opened my eyes through the years, and has made me really thankful for what I do have in my life.

What I wish was different

I do not wish that anything was different, although it was tiring at times, the name of the camp says it all, and is true, "Camp Joy".

Advice

One piece of advice that I would want to share about my experiences throughout the years it, take what you have in your life be grateful always, and really cherish the little moments in life. The little moments that I shared with my camper this past year really changed my perspective on life. So basically, just be appreciative of everything you have and make the best out of life because there are people who struggle everyday, but still have more joy that I have really ever seen in my life.
