The company culture at Merck's Elkton site was extremely supportive and motivating, and it is clear that employees are driven by the common goal of saving and improving lives. Vivarium Intern

May - August 2018 • West Point, PA

What I liked

I am truly grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the amazing work being done at Merck: being able to experience a small aspect of what would be considered a dream job of mine was life-changing. Beyond the obvious benefits of working at this company, there were many things that were unexpected going into my experience. The amount of resources Merck devotes to its interns on the day to day scale and long term professional development is incredible. The environment is truly conducive to providing countless learning opportunities in both the resources provided as well as the attitudes held by the employees and mentors.

What I wish was different

Nothing! It was a wonderful experience through and through.

Screening and Compound Profiling Intern

May - August 2018 • Kenilworth, NJ

What I liked

I really enjoyed working in industry and being surrounded by advanced technology. It was a great learning experience, and all my coworkers were amazing! It was also really cool how my work could be translated into a possible cure/drug 10-15 years down the line! I interacted with so many different people with different backgrounds. I definitely want to come back!

What I wish was different

I wish I worked with more interns. All my co-workers were adults

Advice

You don't have to be an expert in the field to work in it. A lot of people I met were thrust into the fields they work in now and had to learn from the beginning. As long as you have intellectual curiosity and perseverance, you'll be fine!
