The Mission of the Fayette County Public Schools is to create a collaborative community that ensures all students achieve at high levels and graduate prepared to excel in a global society.
FCPS has 42,000 students, 6 high schools, 12 middle schools, 36 elementary schools, 7500 employees and is the second largest employer in Lexington second to the University of Kentucky. The district has an annual budget of $481.5 million dollars.
Fayette County Public Schools has been growing at the rate of 700 new students a year for the past decade. Community support from a nickle property tax has funded 22 school renovations, four new schools and a new pre-school center since 2008. In 2018, FCPS will begin building another elementary school, a new middle schools is in the planning stages as well as a new facility for the STEAM high school. We are on the move as a district!
Under the direction of new Superintendent Manny Caulk, the district has for the first time in its history a completed Strategic Plan for 2017-2021. The plan has five imperatives. They are:
1) Excellent Student Opportunities
2) Excellent Staff
3) Excellent Schools
4) Excellent Supports
5) Excellent Relationships

The Economic Development and Supplier Diversity department is directly aligned with imperative 5—Excellent Relationships. This department is charged with reviewing how the district spends its money and whether that spending is done equitably to ensure economic development in the community.
The Fayette County Board of Education has a policy to increase its spending with minority, women and veteran owned businesses. This department engages on a daily basis with those businesses and puts processes and procedures in place to move the district towards its goals. A recent economic inclusion study was done by EHI Consultants. The resulting goals based on availability of businesses in the marketplace is as follows:
