Manufacturing and Production Engineer / Vibration Test Engineer
January - August 2017 • Danbury, CT
What I liked
Was able to see the entire process from a contract coming into the facility to the final product shipping to the customer. Was able to be hands on with the units, helping technicians build them. I was able to work in environmental testing. I was able to be a Lead ME for a program, which gave great experience as an engineer and helped me make a lot of connections.
What I wish was different
The manufacturing position was electro-manufacturing, which was different from what I was expecting. Work was slow for the first few months and I didn't feel like I had meaningful work. It wasn't until I became a Lead ME and doing environmental testing that I enjoyed my time. Unfortunately I was not able to apply much mechanical engineering knowledge to my work or learn any new software.
Advice
Make the most of the opportunities given. Show up early, work hard, ask for more work, ask to work on different projects, and be social with your colleagues. Once you learn the ins and outs of your job, you can make the most of your co-op.

Material Design Intern
May - August 2018 • Windsor Locks, CT
What I liked
I really loved it. All the employees were very nice, and although I was very inexperienced at the time, they gave me tasks that were really challenging and that I would learn from. They also were very willing to help me if I was ever stuck or had any questions regarding the work I was asked to complete.
What I wish was different
I wish, at the start, I wasn't afraid to ask for help. As the internship went on, I became less afraid.
Advice
Definitely ask questions if you are ever stuck. Not only does it make you go a little insane being stuck on the same thing for a long amount of time, but you're not completing work, and that doesn't look good on your part. Also, when you finish your assigned task, ask for more.
