AT&T

Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • Middletown Township, NJ

What I liked

The office environment was very relaxed, while still maintaining a professional atmosphere. Projects were unique and allowed me to develop skills I would not have learned in school. New office space with open floor and dual/ultrawide monitors.

What I wish was different

While the projects I worked on were interesting, the requirements were not very well defined. I wish it was a bit more of a set plan, rather than figuring it out as we go. This experience definitely varies from person to person.

Advice

Establish a connection with the other interns in your program, it will make the summer very fun!

Software Development Intern

June - August 2017 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

I really enjoyed the friendly environment. Everyone was very easy to talk to and always open to answering questions. Being able to ask questions without hesitation helped to grow my confidence over the course of a summer.

What I wish was different

AT&T gave us executive mentors to work with on getting a deeper understanding of the company as a whole. I was pretty busy, but if I could go back and do it all over again, I would have loved to schedule more one-on-one time with my mentor.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions! No one expects you to know everything there is to know about your field, and internships are definitely a good time to learn about both the company and yourself.

Technology Development Program Intern

May - August 2017 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

Great mentoring, worthwhile projects, community involvement emphasized, intern events were a lot of fun

What I wish was different

Transition out of internship could be a little more efficient in terms of talking about steps for returning and getting paperwork done.

Advice

You won't know the answer to something if you won't ask, so talk to whoever you can and ask all the "stupid" questions you want because you can get away with that as an intern.

Engineering and Operations Intern

May - August 2017 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I enjoyed how helpful all of the other employees at the company were, and how welcoming my supervisor and team were. I loved the office workspace that was open and encouraged moving around and common areas rather than sitting at a cubicle. I also enjoyed how many other interns there were in my building, whom I was able to form lasting friendships with. Also, I enjoyed all of the extra activities AT&T provided us. Every few weeks was a planned intern event, where we got to play Top Golf, tour a data center, tour a football stadium, and rode along with an AT&T field technician - activities to get us out of the office.

What I wish was different

I wish AT&T matched our skills and majors up with out assigned team better. I am a computer science major, but my team did no coding at all, while other interns I talked to who had little coding experience were in charge of a lot of coding.

Advice

Use your time wisely at this internship. Take the opportunity to not only talk to members on your assigned team, but also other teams on other floors of the building. You can learn a lot from these people and gain a lot of insight.

Student Technical Intern

May 2017 • Alpharetta, GA

What I liked

I got a lot of on-hands experience. AT&T is a great place to work with nice, helpful people. I had a great experience.

What I wish was different

My particular assignment didn't have any other interns on my team with me, so I wish I could've gotten more community with people my own age.

Advice

Work hard and take initiative. If you show that you want to learn, people will respond well and show you everything you need to know.

The benefits the company provided, community with other interns, and the city.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given more challenging work.

Advice

Take all the opportunities you can to learn about business and the company--there are so many "extra" experiences that defined how much I was able to gain out of my time there. Also, I recommend selecting the Dallas HQ location for your first rotation with them.

Financial Analyst Intern

June - August 2018 • El Segundo, CA

What I liked

This was my third internship with AT&T which I think says a lot about the company. Every time they offered me to come back I would because not only is the company great, but I learned a lot. My location was also a plus but I really did gain real life experience from interning here and gave me a better idea of what I wanted to do after graduation.

What I wish was different

I honestly wouldn't have changed anything in particular about my experience as anintern with AT&T.

Advice
